The Council (pictured at right) had its first meeting for 2016-2017, hosted by Bribie Island. Nine new delegates were welcomed to the table and, amongst the business of the day, we approved an application from Peregian Golf Club for affiliation to the District. They are now planning a “soft” opening in early December.
Members spent time in our Committees - Tournaments, Juniors, Finance & Communication and Innovation – planning the year ahead before we take a break for Christmas.
Already, the Finance Committee (back left) faces a busy schedule because the annual capitation process which is about to begin, leading to final bank deposits in March 2017. And the Junior Committee (front right) is preparing for the January school holidays when several Junior events are being held across the District.
So another busy year for the District Council has already started and we’d like to take the opportunity to thank all our clubs for their wonderful support during 2016. It makes our work so much easier.
To all, a festive and safe Christmas and a happy New Year.
The final junior representative event for the year was held on Sunday 13th November 2016 at Virginia Golf Club. Our team of 8 played very well, but we could not win back the trophy which has returned to Brisbane & District for another year after a 5-3 outcome. Our team comprised:
Justice Bosio (6.7), Brigette Griffin (11.6), Rebecca O'Neill (12.2), Jasmine O'Hara (13.6) Captain, Nikita O'Hara (19.9), Sunday Moore (23.0), Ali Hawkins (26.6) and Caitlyn Wheatley (33.2).
The three highest handicappers had never been involved in match play before but they were magnificent – Sunday won her match, and Ali and Caitlyn got as far as the 14th. The resilience and enthusiasm of these little girls is a lesson to us all and they have years of great golf ahead of them.
Next year, the tournament will be held at Bribie Island.
